After a great rehearsal with Dr. Martin from WCU this past week, the Concert Band is heading into the final stages of preparation for our second performance of the season on Wednesday February 15th.    Centered around the vibrant city of New Orleans, please help us spread the word on social media!

Over the next week or so, we will be discussing details of a day trip planned for the Concert Band in May.    At some point in the next month or so, we will also be be revealing our plans for an overnight trip in the 2017-2018 school year.

capture3Two days later (Friday February 17th), the Phantom Band Boosters will be hosting the 4th Annual Jazzin’ the Ville PASD Jazz Festival!   In addition to the premiere of the PAHS Jazz Ensemble and exhibition performances by the MS Jazz Band and select students from the elementary programs, there will be 10 amazing high school jazz bands from across southeastern PA.    The event starts at 5:00pm with bands performing every 25 minutes.

At the end of the month, the 30 members of the PHX Indoor Performance Ensemblephx-indoor-logo will be bringing their show “Focus” to life in front of a live audience.   This combination of music and motion will be something you don’t want to miss.    Many of the members of the PHXiPE are currently selling Gertrude Hawk candy bars to offset some of their uniform costs for the year.   Please support their efforts!

This past weekend saw some of our students participating in local honor festivals:

  • Saturday morning was the performance of the 2017 PMEA District 12 Orchestra, featuring Matt Tweedie (Tuba-Sr), Sarah Coffman (Oboe-Sr), and Kevin Wang (Violin-Soph).   Congratulations to Kevin for advancing to the Region Orchestra festival to be held later in February!
  • Saturday evening was the performance of the 2017 Inter-County Band Festival.  PAHS was represented at this event by Dionna Jackson (Trumpet-Fr) and Tyler Jenkins-Wong (Trombone-Fr).

Finally….we are heading into that time of year where students will begin the process of selecting courses for next year.   Obviously – we hope that BAND will be a part of that!

All current band, orchestra, and chorus students will be filling out an ENSEMBLE SCHEDULING FORM starting the week of Feb 6th.  This will assist us and the guidance department in making sure that we get your schedule “right” the first time.

We also hope that you’ll take a look at one of the additional music electives that are offered:

  • Music Theory & Composition
  • AP Music Theory
  • Recording Technology (this counts as technology class, by the way!)
  • Beginning Piano
  • Beginning Guitar

For more information on these courses, see the PAHS Program of Studies or talk to one of the music teachers!

There are just TWO days left to order music gear through our store.  capture  Check out those flannel pants!
